Australia Basketball Team has been one of the most consistent teams of the tournament and once again they proved why they are highly rated in the tournament. Australia defeated the Dominican Republic Basketball team in their second last match of the second round of tournament. Australia won the game by a margin of 82-76 at the end of gameplay.
We witnessed a nail-biting end to the game between Australia and the Dominican Republic as the latter won the game by six points only. It was a tightly contested game where Patty Mills of the Australian side showed his A-game to keep his side in the hunt of Quarter-Final spot.
Patty Mills is in the form of his life as he claimed his third TCL player of the game in the tournament. Now he will be eying to break the record made by Poland’s Mateusz Ponitka in the history of FIBA Basketball World Cup.
He was a top scorer from the Australian side with 19 points and 9 assists in the game. It was due to his effort that Australians were always in the game otherwise it could have been a major upset in this World Cup.
At the end of half time, Australia was marginally ahead in the game with the score reading 40-38 which meant opposition was still in the game. This match was being played at Youth Olympics Gymnasium at Nanjing and Australian’s record is not so good at this particular venue.
The match was in balance in the third quarter too but Boomers changed their tactics in the last quarter and they were all over the Dominican Republic. The change in strategy worked for the Australians and the game was sealed when Dellavedova scored a three-pointer.
Now with a win against the Dominican Republic, Australia is one step away from a quarter-final spot. They must be keeping an eye on the finals to be played in Beijing but for that, it is a long way to go. It depends upon them now whether they will lift the trophy for the first time in the history of the tournament or not.
