France Basketball team faced a difficult challenge against Lithuania in the second round of the tournament. But France ensured that they cross the line at the end of a tough game in Nanjing. So, France has qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Lithuania by a margin of just 3 points.
The scoreline at the end of the match was 78-75 which made it another nail-biting match in the tournament. Evan Fournier was the top scorer of the match with 24 points and second-best performance from France’s side was given from Nando De Colo who scored 22 points.
For Lithuania’s side, Jonas Valaciunas scored 18 points and 8 rebounds being the highest score among his teammates in the game. He helped his team to recover the lead conceded by them and make a comeback in the match.
By the end of the third-quarter, Lithuania was struggling and they were left behind by a margin of 16 points and it was Valaciunas who lead his team to fight back in the match. Eventually, it turned out to be a masterstroke as the scores were tied at 74 when finishing line was just a minute away. It became a thriller and all due credit to De Colo to keep his head calm in a pressure situation as he delivered a three-pointer at that stage of the match.
De Colo became an overnight superstar for France Basketball team after he scored a three-pointer in last minutes and some good defensive play helped France to cross the line at the crunch moment. A three-pointer scored nearing the buzzer ensured that France qualifies for the Quarter-Finals.
Talking about the second round of the tournament of Group L, France and Australia qualifies for the Quarter-Finals. On the flip of it Lithuania showing some positive intent, unfortunately, crashes out of the tournament. Both the qualified teams who remain unbeaten in the group L will lock horns in the last game of the second-round games.
It means France will be against Australia and Lithuania against the Dominican Republic where the latter will be playing for their country’s pride.
