Lampard was delighted with the performance of Nigeria-eligible midfielder Faustino Anjorin in Chelsea’s 7-1 demolition of Grimsby Town in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday evening. With Chelsea leading 4-1 and The Mariners not threatening a comeback, Lampard brought on Netherlands youth-teamer Ian Maatsen in the 66th minute and a minute later he was joined on the pitch by a future Nigerian star – Anjorin. The 17-year-old midfielder had a couple of nice touches and was unfazed playing against much older opponents.

After the game at Stamford Bridge, Lampard told Chelsea’s official webpage: ”I am pleased we had some players who had not been playing so many minutes and young players who started the game with some debuts given. ”And the two young lads who came on in the second half [Ian Maatsen and Tino Anjorin] improved the team which is great to see. ”So there were some nice minutes and a nice comfortable win having not won at Stamford Bridge before that, so on those levels, I am happy.

Since keeping up with his plan of promoting the youth players, and with the transfer ban still standing, the youth players are more willing to step up and earn promotion to the senior team. ” Anjorin is now the youngest player of Nigerian descent to debut for Chelsea in a domestic competition following his maiden appearance for the club yesterday.

Frank Lampard has expressed out his feelings on the performance of his club youngsters and he is very affirmative about them that they will be having a long career ahead of themselves. And also emphasised on making more improvement in their skill set so that they can perform well against strong oppositions too. More importantly, as they will play more games with skillset improvement comes the experience in the long term.
