After defeating Villarreal for 2-1 Barcelona returns to the winning zone but is left with a scar as Lionel Messi is wounded again in the tournament. He had missed the first four games of the La Liga because of a calf injury and Barcelona won only two of those games.
Messi suffered from an injury on his thigh muscles and was allowed to take rest in the second half of the match even though it was nothing serious, because, Barcelona cannot afford to lose its most efficient player. In just 6 minutes into the game, The Camp Nou witnessed Antione Griezmann rising to nod a spectacularly carried out Lionel Messi corner into the goal. While the duo – Messi and Griezmann were shaking Villarreal of the guard, Arthur Melo increased the team’s spirit by striking a goal while lurking on the edge of the area. Arthur showcased a mind-blowing performance by having the ball with himself at least 30 feet away from the goal post.
Villarreal didn’t make its entry into the scoreboard until Santi Cazorla shot a goal from medium range. During the second half Ousmane Dembele replaced Messi and the kept the vibration going on. Frenkie de Jong and Ansu Fati were also sent on as second-half subs, both of them kept the game in upbeat.
As time passed there was a real possibility that Villarreal would have scored in and would have brought in some balance into the game. The stadium was full-on cheers until the final whistle blew at the end of the game and three goals were successfully into the net. One by Villarreal and the other two by Barcelona.
Even though there were a few moments of tensions when Messi got injured, Barcelona is back to the top front in the game. Villarreal coach said that his team was almost equal when Messi had been off.
Ernesto Valverde had said after the match that Messi only has minor discomfort in the adductor of his left leg and they didn’t want to risk it. Which means he will be back in the game to add on Barcelona’s hard work in climbing up the table.
