Spain and Iran Basketball teams were against each other at Guangzhou playing their last match of the group stage where Spain emerged as the winners of that game. Spain Basketball team won the game by 73-65 margin and qualified for the second round of the tournament. They won all the three games of the group stage in the tournament.

It was a very close match contested between Spain and Iran which could have gone either way. Spain Basketball team was the favourite to win the last match of the group stage comprehensively but Iran had other plans. Iran competed out of their skins and they were on the verge of creating history in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. As Iran was playing the World Cup for the sixth time and never in the past years they were able to win a single game against the European Nation.

Spain led the game at the end of the first ten minutes by 3 points but Iran didn’t throw the towel in the ring and shown a fightback which put their noses ahead by two points. Once Spain covered up the deficit of two points, Iran never recovered from that stage and eventually lost the game.

Since 1998, Spain has played five World Cups and they won all the group stage games four times out of five. With Iran not tasting much success in the FIBA World Cup again crashed out of the tournament.

Claver and Hernangomez were the wrecks in chief for Spain Basketball team as Iran was bossing the game with a lead of 63-62 but they both changed the momentum of the game on their head. If not for Spain’s comeback then definitely we would have witnessed history being made in FIBA World Cup 2019.

Now with the Group Stage of first-round done and dusted both the teams move to further stages. Iran heads to classification round for pride and Spain will be travelling to Wuhan for second-round games against Serbia and Italy.
