Brazil haMonts made it three in three in the group stage of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and has qualified for the second round of the tournament. In the last game of the first round, Brazil defeated Montenegro comprehensively by a margin of 84-73.
With qualification for second round already sealed in Brazil’s first two games of the tournament, team management decided to rest their marquee players for this game. The decision to not to play marquee players didn’t backfire and Brazil was bossing the game for major part of the match.
In the first half of the match between Brazil and Montenegro, Brazil was cruising with a lead of 43-38 which ensured that Montenegro was still in the game at the start of the third quarter. Once the third quarter went underway Brazil took the game in the unknown territory and won the third straight game of the tournament.
Montenegro was trailing by 12 points at the start of the match but they held their heads high and fought till the end. In the last quarter, they made a terrific comeback and reduced the lead to one point only which means now the score was 73-72.
But Barbosa Spain’s superstar this season had other plans and he once again triggered the momentum to take an 11 point lead in the end. Barbosa’s effort made it possible to win the match against Montenegro otherwise it could have been an upset in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.
Now, what lies ahead of both the teams in this tournament being held in China. Brazil topped the Group F in the first round of the tournament and they move to the second round to play against USA and Czech Republic. Montenegro will play Turkey and Japan in the classification round of the tournament to consolidate their performances in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.
