The team India’s Squad for the T-20 internationals against South Africa was announced
yesterday. While Hardik Pandya makes a comeback into the Indian team after being left
out for the West Indies series, legendary Indian wicket-keeper batsman and former
Indian captain, MS Dhoni’s future is still uncertain as he is not in the squad for the 3
match T-20 series.
First choice fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar have been rested
and the pace troika of Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar and Khaleel Ahmed retain their
spots as India aims to find their best bench options for the T-20 World Cup next year.
The bowling line-up looks good after the return of Hardik Pandya.
The team has a good quartet of spin bowling options involving Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul
Chahar, Krunal Pandya and Washington Sundar. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep
Yadav still doesn’t make the cut for the shortest format.
Rishabh Pant is being given an extended run as the main wicket-keeper batsman
considering no back-up wicket-keeper has been announced. Shreyas Iyer keeps his
place in the team with impressive performances against the Windies. Manish Pandey
too gets a chance to prove his inclusion as a middle-order batsman.
Squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer,
Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Krunal Pandya,
Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini.
The three-match T-20 series against South Africa begins on September 15 in
Dharamshala with subsequent games in Mohali (September 18) and Bengaluru
(September 22). This will be followed by a three-test series beginning on October 2.
