Shikhar Dhawan has been under scrutiny for a long time now. After his injury when he came back in the International arena against West Indies, his flop show continued. Once again he has failed to impress the selectors and team management. He was also challenged by West Indian bowlers when West Indies toured India before World Cup 2019. In that series, he struggled against a low quality bowling attack.
Now, selectors have decided to include Shikhar Dhawan in India A squad against South Africa A for the last two unofficial One-Day Matches. His poor run of form continues as he managed to accumulate just 65 runs in the five-innings he played against West Indies in limited-overs matches.
India A has been in terrific form in the series and they have beaten South Africa A comprehensively. The first match was won by India A by 69 runs in which Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a five-wicket haul in the match. However, it was a team performance which led to the victory against South Africa A. It will be interesting to watch how Shikhar Dhawan plays in these matches.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Friday decided to add Mr Shikhar Dhawan to India A squad for the fourth and fifth one-day against South Africa A,” the BCCI said in a release.
All-Rounder Vijay Shankar has been ruled out from the series as he is still nursing his toe injury which he acquired during the World Cup 2019. It was the Jasprit Bumrah’s Yorker effect which he is still nursing. He made a comeback in TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League) but he has aggravated his injury to another level. It will be hard on Vijay Shankar as he might lose his place in the International Side as his competitor Shivam Dube has been in finest of forms and he is making giant strides into the domestic arena.
