Vaidehi Ankolekar is termed as Best Bus Conductor in Mumbai and her son Atharva has been selected in Indian U-19 Cricket Team. His first assignment will be in Sri Lanka where the Youth Asia Cup is being played this year. The news of selection in the Indian team has brought World of joy in their house.

Vaidehi Ankolekar could be a proud mother as he grew his child single-handedly after the demise of Atharva’s father back in 2010. After that to earn money she started taking tuitions for their living and luckily after some time she got her husband’s job. And now she must be a happier mother who helped his child to achieve his dream.

Atharva is a left-arm spinner and a handy batsman lower down the order.  Currently, he is studying at Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce. When the selection news came out in the media his mother got an overwhelming response from the near and dear ones as she got around 40,000 messages to congratulate her on the selection of his son in the India U-19 Cricket Team.

“I have received messages from other BEST staffers and relatives. I am grateful to all of them; it’s a proud moment for me,” says Ankolekar. “My husband Vinod was a conductor in BEST and the only earning member in the family. His death left me helpless and I began giving tuition at my home with my friend’s help. Later, I was luckily given my husband’s job. I grateful to BEST, because of it, I could fulfil my son’s dream.”

“I am missing my father the most right now,” said Atharva, “When I was a baby, he would place a cricket bat in the cot next to me. As I grew, whenever I performed well, he would give me gifts such as bats, gloves and helmets to play the sport. I miss all that. Now, I will work hard and play for Team India.”
