After Independence was achieved way back in 1947, there is no looking back for the Indians in the field of Sports. Slowly and steadily Indians have made a great impact in the World of sports and the players in this part of the world continue to achieve greater heights even at the highest level of the game.

Cricket: It is just more than a game for Indians

Being a sports fanatic country, India has always been a Cricket Dominated country in the field of sports.

In 1983 Indians tasted the success in the field of cricket way back in 1983 when Kapil Dev lifted the first-ever World Cup at Lords that ignited the fire and cricket became more popular in our country than ever.

Another proud moment for Indians came in 2007 when young MS Dhoni lifted T-20 World Cup Trophy and just after 4 years in 2011 he led to another World Cup triumph. In the course which he became only the second Indian captain to do so in cricketing history.

Hockey: The National Sport of India

Hockey has been a debatable topic in regard to the origin of the game but still, it is popular as National Sport in India.

Hockey was introduced in the country way before cricket was introduced and at that time India was dominated by Hockey. In the Olympics since 1928 has been dominated by India and under Major Dhyan Chand India won the Gold Medal under his leadership and till now hockey has given 8 golds to country, highest in any sport.

Kabaddi: A typical Indian Sport

Many sports evolved in India and Kabaddi is one of them. It’s not much popular and not played in Olympics but still, India had an upper hand in this game for ages. And even today if we see India’s Kabaddi records, we have won 3 World Cups in Kabaddi and even in Asian Games, they have won nine gold medals.

Badminton: A good prospect for future

Indians have started evolving in Badminton recently and players are making their names as in the other sports.
The number of players playing the game of Badminton is growing exponentially in India. With players like Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu winning the medals in Olympics have boosted the confidence of Indian players and now people have started accepting Badminton as a prominent sport.

Wrestling: A sport on the rise in India

Wrestling is another field of sport which is making a tremendous stride in India. Wrestling has given India five Olympic medals. Indian wrestlers like Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Sakshi Malik won the medals in Olympic.

  • Sushil Kumar – Bronze and Silver in 2008 and 2012.
  • Yogeshwar Dutt – Bronze in 2012
  • Sakshi Malik – Bronze in 2016
