It was a nerve-wracking contest on Wednesday between Bengaluru FC and East Bengal in Durand Cup clash at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. It was a 17th minute in the first half when Bengaluru FC scored the first goal on the back of their lead midfielder Ajay Chetri and it was nullified by the substitute fielder Bidyashagar Singh of East Bengal in the second half. He scored two goals on the trot in 59th and 74th Minute who powered his team to the semi-finals.
When the match started it was East Bengal who came in the ground with attacking strategy and Bengaluru FC were sitting back and relaxing. The hosts had a chance during the early stages of the game in the first 10 minutes when a freekick was awarded to hosts. Freekick taker Ralte’s shot was blocked by the wall.
It was the 17th minute when Leon Augustine was sprinting with the ball in the right and Lalrindika pressed the trigger button but the ball hit the pole and deflected but Sunil Chetri impressive Mid Fielder grabs this opportunity and he scores the goal making the scoreline 1-0.
The Bengaluru FC finished their first half on a high with scoreline depicting they were well ahead of the game. But as soon as the second half started visitors not had the greatest of starts and the allowed hosts to put tremendous pressure on themselves. East Bengal was well aware of the situation and capitalised on the poor passes by Bengaluru FC.
Now came the turning point of this Magnificient game, it was 59th minute when Bidyashagar Singh claims the equaliser of the match and game was back in balance. And taking the momentum forward in 74th minute he claimed his 2nd goal of the match and sealed the game there and then for his side.
That was all from this terrific game of football. Bidyashagar Singh was the hero for his side in this game which was a match seizing moment. With this win, it becomes third win for them on the trot in Durand Cup 2019. Now they remain unbeaten and stays on top of the Group A with nine points in 3 matches.
