Virat Kohli is back to his own ways of ” Eat, Sleep, Score a Century, Repeat”. Yet another day and another century for The run-machine Kohli. Last night was no different, he scored his 43rd ton in One Day International against West Indies in the final match of the 3 match ODI series in Port of Spain.
In the interim, he reached to another milestone of his career by becoming the Top Scorer in a Decade after surpassing Ricky Ponting’s record of scoring 18,962 runs in the 2000s. With his 43rd International Hundred yesterday he is inching closer towards Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI Hundreds.
Yesterday, it was West Indies who won the toss and elected to bat first on a flat pitch. And it was Chris Gayle who started the fireworks at the start of the innings maybe for the last time in ODI cricket. Both the West Indian openers gave their side a fiery start. For once they were scoring at 10 runs per over.
Small contributions were also made by Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran who played 16 balls and made 30 runs at a rapid pace which took West Indies scoreline above 200.
But the weather continued to play hide and seek with the players. Then came Duckworth Lewis Stern Method into the game and match was reduced to 35 overs-a-side. India needed 255 runs in 35 overs to win the match and series.
Again openers failed to convert the starts and then came the player of the match Virat Kohli, he was in sublime touch again took on West Indies bowlers for fun. For once the game was in the balance as India lost quick wicket but then came India’s new recruit at no.5 position Shreyas Iyer who took the game away from West Indies in the matter of few overs by hitting 3 fours and 5 sixes.
Eventually, Virat Kohli once again finished off the chase and was not out till the end. Virat Kohli once again proved why he is the chase master and India clinched both match and series on the back of heroics of Kohli and Iyer.
Now Indian team will go into test mode for the Test matches against West Indies which starts from 22nd August 2019.
