Spain despite a poor performance against Italy won the game and qualified for the Quarter Finals of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019. By no means, Italy was a weaker opposition and that showed in their game too as they never lost the hope of winning the game to book the berth of Quarter Finals. Eventually, Italy Basketball Team is out of the contention which meant that Serbia also Qualifies for the Quarter Finals of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.
Now, all the matches of Group J of the second round are played out and top two teams which booked a place in the Quarterfinals are Spain and Serbia. Both teams achieved the place in the quarter-final when Spain defeated Italy – 2006 champions in a closely contested match.
Juancho Hernangomez was the top scorer of the match with 16 points he scored for Spain. Other notable contribution from Spain’s campaign came from Ricky Rubio and Sergio Llull who scored 15 and 11 points respectively to help their side to qualify for the quarter-final.
Italy had their noses ahead for some moment when the scoreline read like 56-52 and it was purely because of Danilo Gallinari who scored a three-pointer with just four minutes left at the end of the game. Spain showed their character in the tough times and Rubio scored two free throws to get the lead back from Italy. After that, it was just a matter of time and they got nine consecutive points to claim the victory.
Now, with Spain’s win over Italy confirms that from Group J Spain and Serbia are the two teams who will be playing the quarter-finals of the tournament. On the other side, Italy will be having a last go at Puerto Rico in the tournament. Italy would be looking forward to this contest and they will try to win their last game of the tournament to secure the third place.
Whereas Spain and Serbia will be preparing themselves for the Quarter-Finals and fine-tuning their skill sets and planning.
