Brendon McCullum – Blitzkrieg batsman of all time has been appointed for the position of coach for Kolkata Knight Riders. With McCullum being appointed as a coach of KKR ends the contract of Jacques Kallis as head coach who took responsibility in 2015.

Brendon McCullum’s association with Kolkata Knight Riders is not new for him. In the inaugural match of Indian Premier League 2008, he was the opening batsman of KKR and he set the world on fire with his breathtaking batting in the first match itself. For KKR he played from 2008 to 2010 and in 2012-13 seasons.

As soon as Brendon McCullum announced his retirement Kolkata Knight Rider’s Management was quick to rope him as a head coach. KKR has several ties with coaches like Simon Katich for which they are yet to name the replacements for other coaching staff.

Brendon McCullum said in the conference that he was more than happy to take responsibility. He also was in praise of Knight Rider franchise both in IPL and CPL. In Caribbean Premier League Knight Riders management own a franchise Trinbago Knight Riders. He says it is was a nice association to work with both in the Caribbean Premier League and Indian Premier League.

It is a wise decision to take Brendon McCullum as a head coach for KKR and could be a tournament-winning decision for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He is known for his aggressive approach and mindset which could show in the game KKR players. While captaining New Zealand International side he showed his aggressive approach for them all the time.

It remains to be seen that Baz can step up to the expectations of the KKR team in his first stint with them. How would be the approach of Brendon McCullum in the first season of IPL as a coach will be interesting to see.
